Two-Ingredient Guacamole
This is honestly how I grew up thinking guacamole was supposed to be made. Quick, delicious, and ridiculously easy. My family still makes it like this.
Equipment
- Normal Kitchen Utensils
Ingredients
- 1 Large Avocado Or 2 Small (About 1 1/4 C When Chopped)
- 1/4 to 1/2 C Salsa, Pico de Gallo or Picante Sauce
- Salt and Pepper to Taste (Optional)
Instructions
- Carefully cut the avocado in half lengthwise and remove the seed.1 Large Avocado
- Score along the inside of each avocado half. First along the length of the avocado and then perpendicular to the initial cuts. Make the scores a quarter inch apart to form quarter inch squares.
- Scoop the avocado flash out into a bowl and add in the salsa or picante sauce. It is best to use less salsa first and add more if necessary.1/4 to 1/2 C Salsa, Pico de Gallo or Picante Sauce
- Mix with a fork, breaking the avocado chucks into a desired size.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. I generally don't need to add any.Salt and Pepper to Taste
- Serve with chips and more salsa (or Queso), on toast, in a burrito, or with pretty much anything else. It's guacamole!
Notes
So there are plenty of other awesome things you can add to this two-ingredient guac. Use it as a base and chef it up with whatever you have in the kitchen. My family loves to add garlic powder. Cumin, cilantro, lime and jalapeño are also great additions.
A word on the salsa/pico choice. Keep in mind that saucier red salsas will make the guacamole darker. The image on this page used a salsa that was heavy on the tomatoes.
My go-to salsa recipe works well in this dish. If you want a guacamole with the picturesque chunks of onion, tomato, cilantro, etc., use a pico de gallo.
