Garlicky Green Beans
Nothing gets a "that smells good" like sautéing garlic and butter. Add some green beans and you have yourself an awesome side dish.
Equipment
- Normal Kitchen Utensils
- Tongs work well for stirring green beans
Ingredients
- 2 Lbs Green Beans Fresh or Frozen
- 8 Cloves Garlic
- 4 Tbsp Butter Unsalted
- 2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1/2 C Grated Parmesan Cheese (Optional)
- Salt and Pepper to Taste
Instructions
- If using fresh green beans, wash them and snap the ends off. Peel and chop (or mince) the garlic.2 Lbs Green Beans, 8 Cloves Garlic
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When the butter is starting to bubble, add the green beans and 1/2 tsp salt.4 Tbsp Butter
- Cook 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the green beans start to soften a little. Frozen green beans may take a little longer. Note: I like green beans pretty crunchy. If you like yours softer, consider cooking them an extra 5-10 minutes.
- Once the initial cooking time has elapsed, and your green beans are nearing their desired doneness, add the garlic, onion powder and 1/2 tsp black pepper. Cook another 3-4 minutes until the garlic has softened.2 tsp Onion Powder, Salt and Pepper to Taste
- Bite into a green bean to test for desired crunch before cutting the heat. Add the (optional) parmesan cheese and a final sprinkle of salt and pepper to taste.1/2 C Grated Parmesan Cheese
- Serve right away with a nice cut of beef or chicken and some rice or mashed potatoes.
Notes
These green beans are a great way to soak up the flavor left in the pan after cooking a batch of steak or chicken – as long as you aren’t already making a sauce from the drippings.
They make take a little long to finish before the meat gets cold, but you can save them for a future meal. These make a great meal prepping side.
