Garden Fresh Ranch Dressing

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 C Sour Cream
  • 3/4 C Mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp Buttermilk or Regular Milk
  • 1 Tbsp Shallot Grated or Finely Minced
  • 1 Tbsp Fresh Dill Finely Chopped
  • 1/2 Tbsp Fresh Parsley Finely Chopped
  • 1/2 Tbsp Fresh Chives (or Substitute Scallions) Finely Chopped
  • 1/2 Tbsp Lemon Juice Plus More to Taste
  • 1 Large Clove Garlic Minced
  • 1/8 tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Salt Plus More to Taste

Instructions
 

  • Mix all the ingredients together and chill for at least two hours. If you can manage it, I like to chill the dressing overnight. The more time the merrier to help the flavors meld together, and to take some of the bite out of the garlic and onion.
    3/4 C Sour Cream, 3/4 C Mayonnaise, 2 Tbsp Buttermilk, 1 Tbsp Shallot, 1 Tbsp Fresh Dill, 1/2 Tbsp Fresh Parsley, 1/2 Tbsp Fresh Chives (or Substitute Scallions), 1/2 Tbsp Lemon Juice, 1 Large Clove Garlic, 1/8 tsp Ground Black Pepper, 1/4 tsp Salt
  • Once chilled, give the ranch a good stir and taste for seasoning. If the flavor seems lacking, add a heavy pinch of salt. If it doesn't have a slight zing, add another squeeze of lemon juice.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

This ranch dressing version is more of a "cool" ranch you would find at a restaurant. If you prefer more of a "bottled" ranch flavor, replace half of the sour cream with additional mayo. 
Additionally, if you want a thinner, runnier ranch, replace 2 Tbsp of the sour cream with 2 Tbsp of additional buttermilk or regular milk. If you want a thicker, dip-style ranch, replace the buttermilk with additional sour cream or mayo. 
I also wouldn't blame you if you just threw everything into a blender instead of handing chopping all the herbs, garlic and onions. 
Potential Substitutions:
Chives - try scallions (green onion)
Shallot - onion
Lemon juice - vinegary hot sauce or white wine vinegar
Buttermilk - half regular milk and half lemon juice
